iLog Elixir Components Pricing

So you’re bored of the plain-jane, out-of-the-box charting components for Flex and you want to spice it up with gauges, heat maps, and 3D charts, so you check out iLog’s Elixir Data Visualization components and you say — WOW, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for!!! Now take a deep breath and read the next line:

Although the company provides a free developer environment, with watermarks mind you, the full developer environment is a whopping $799!! It gets worse. If your client has net revenue of over $5 million per year, pricing can start at $15K per year!!

Isn’t the entire Adobe CS4 suite <= $1000??? And that’s like 10 products…

    The license is indeed $799 per developer for the 11 components whatever the number of application you create. ILOG Elixir pricing info is public at http://www.ilog.com/products/ilogelixir/pricing/

    For the rest, your info is not accurate. Additional fee (the OEM license) only apply for software vendors selling application using ILOG Elixir and sold “as is to the world” (it does not apply for custom work per customer, for intranet apps, for free public apps and so on). More details on the FAQ at http://www.ilog.com/products/ilogelixir/faq/

    This OEM fee starts at 0$ for small corporation and at 5K$ (not 15K$) for larger ones. We all have to deal with make or buy decision: $799 seemed a good deal to all customers we have, same for the OEM license. Paying few K$ to save man months to man years of R&D work is a good deal to software vendors we talk to (most others are end users doing intranet apps or consulting shops, both do not fall under the OEM licensing so cost is $799).
